In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power. Surrounded by danger of being sold and further stripped of freedom, she discovers hope through a gracious family and learns forgiveness and overwhelming mercy from her own transformation.。勇作（阿部宽饰）是一位普通的工人，家庭里发生的变故导致他失去了理智出手打伤工友，因此面临着六年的漫长牢狱之灾。入狱的勇作不想连累妻子，他主动提出要和妻子离婚，给她自由让她去寻找自己的人生。 一转眼六年过去，即将出狱的勇作发现自己的心中依旧惦念着妻子的音容笑貌，他写了一封信给妻子，说如果妻子还爱着他，还想同他一起生活，那么就在家门口的旗杆上挂一缕黄手帕，如果返乡的自己没有看见黄手帕，就会自觉的离开。就这样，勇作踏上了回家的路，然而，连他自己都不知道，在这条坎坷的道路尽头，究竟会有怎样的结局在等待着他。。
