摔跤在中国已有千年的历史传统。中国式摔跤有很强的观赏性和艺术性，且极具阳刚、粗犷的雄性之美，很适合影视这一载体去表现，但是这一题材多年来却无人涉及。一向以策划题材准、独特而著称的制片人俞胜利敏锐地捕捉到了这一题材，指导编剧张建广十易其稿，打磨剧本，使剧本经历了脱胎换骨的转变和提升。为了打造精品，又不惜成本，在成片基础上精剪掉好几集，最终推出了这部《跤王》。。The story begins in today Istanbul, when a woman called Işık (Bade İşçil) arrives at an old house.
