为了逃避父子关系，马来西亚的大学生一凡，来台湾寻找新机会；为了菲律宾家人的生计，妮雅也来到台湾工作。两人相遇相爱，但他们都只是社会的移动者。宿命轮回，一凡与妮雅终究走上了分离与漂泊，他们在台湾的故事重演著六十年前，一凡的祖父辈在马来亚丛林中禁忌的爱情与家族坎坷。一凡在寻找爱情，也在追寻自我认同。隔了时间的长河，不同时代的恋人依旧无地生根。。雁南归（许冠文 饰）与远嫁香港的妹妹阿萍（郑雅文 饰）分离多年，虽然阿萍常寄钱物，但雁南归大都用来为村民谋福，自己整日在树林中腾跃劳作，落得快活。这一日，雁南归终于决定奔赴香港，探望妹妹和传闻中富足的妹夫黄嘉范（黄百鸣 饰）。然而雁南归甫一抵达，便发现实情颇有出入，妹妹一家四口与嘉范未嫁的空姐小妹黄嘉玲（王祖贤 饰）挤在一间不大的两居室里，黄嘉范只凭鞋店店员的工作养家。同时，黄家人对雁南归大大咧咧的乡下作风颇感不适，双方硬凑一个屋檐下，惹起诸多矛盾。雁南归经黄嘉范介绍入鞋店工作，但只一天便被老板娘逐出；嘉玲与富商公子的关系不久也被雁南归搞砸。失落之下雁南归参加有奖节目意外获得出国机会，却不幸在旅途中遭遇不测……。Greece, in the 1920's, is occupied by the Turks. The country is in turmoil with entire villages uprooted. The site of the movie is a Greek village that conducts a passion play each year. The leading citizens of the town, under the auspices of the Patriarch, choose those that will play the parts in the Passion. A stuttering shepherd is chosen to play Jesus. The town butcher (who wanted to be Jesus) is chosen as Judas. The town prostitute is chosen as Mary Magdalene. The rest of the disciples are also chosen. As the movie unfolds, the Passion Play becomes a reality. A group of villagers, uprooted by the war and impoverished, arrive at the village led by their priest. The wealthier citizens of the town want nothing with these people and manipulate a massacre. In the context of the 1920's each of the characters plays out their biblical role in actuality.。
